Throughout this site we use a combination of prose, scores, and photographs to describe the wines tasted. In general our tasting notes describe the appearance, nose and palate (or robe, nez, bouche for the French man among us) but what do these different components actually describe?
Can wine be judged in an objective fashion, and if not then why is so much effort put into making, tasting and writing about wine? What do scores out of 100 mean for wine, and why should we care if critic X/Y/Z (or indeed yours truly) thinks the wine is a classic?
